Join us for our "A Year On The Field" Project and become a part
of a unique, global study with colleagues and friends from many
areas of interest.

Incorporate this project into your daily routines, include in school projects,
invite students and volunteers to split the work load and to intensify the public engagement.
Object of the Study
For the second year (2022-2023) we are focusing on flax (Linum usitatissimum).

Our project asks these questions:

How is flax grown in different regions of the world?

How have the cultivation methods changed over the centuries?

What flax varieties were cultivated in the past and present?

What flax products are made of the grains and fibres?
Our Goals and Passion
- To enable a global exchange on the historical methods of cultivation and harvest, regional and era differences, of the chosen crops

- To note the importance of the chosen crop in current culture or historical contexts
​
- To promote regional, national and international networking of museums, research institutions and producers
​
- To raise the public interest for sustainable cultivation methods through intensive reporting
​
- To strengthen the importance of museums in the public discourse and agriculture
We are looking for
Farmers (Animal or Tractor-powered)
Museums & Archaeological Open-Air Museums
Living History Farms
to document all steps of flax cultivation and processing with us for a year on site.
Scientists
Collections Staff
Processors of fibres & grains
who want to provide us with insights into individual aspects of flax cultivation,
varieties and final flax products through the centuries.
